Innovation Centre in Zadar (Croatia)
The Innovation Centre building is located in the complex urban structure of the larger centre of Zadar, which is characterized by a modern architectural expression. The street where the building is located leads to the old town, and thus its appearance contributes to the overall impression of entering the city. If you choose a facade lined with terracotta tiles, the house is characterized by the fact that it is attractive in the environment. This type of terracotta facade is now considered a higher standard of design for commercial and public buildings. It ensures the durability of materials, easy maintenance and great freedom of expression in colours and textures with the aim of responsibility towards the environment and the budget – explains designer Ana Alar from the company ing4studio.

Due to the functional complex volume of the building, the surface of the facade is graphically solved – design, monochromatic with the modification of solid surfaces and terracotta line elements “baguette”, which achieve dynamics with sliding and folding “shutters” as a sunscreen element typical of the Mediterranean climate.- adds designer Alar.
About the project
The investor of the project ‘Centre for Creative Industries’ is the institution for the development of competencies, innovations and specializations of Zadar County – Innovation. The total value of the project is HRK 24,426,848.76, of which HRK 19,972,830.69 was granted to the applicant from the European Regional Development Fund.
The construction of the centre building has been completed, while the completion of the project itself is scheduled for March 2021, when the centre is expected to open its doors to its users.
The construction works, including the facade of the building, were defined and carried out through the main and detailed design. The goal of the project “Centre for Creative Industries” is the establishment of a specialized business incubator for creative industries with a focus on the audio-visual industry and IT industry, which will increase the competitiveness of this sector of the economy and increase employment. The facility of the centre with a total area of 1,560 m2 is located in the city of Zadar in the area of Relje. The construction of the centre provided a modern entrepreneurial infrastructure not only with rental offices, but also with training halls, recording studio, multifunctional hall, coworking space and exhibition space. The strategy of the Centre focuses on developing small and medium enterprises, promoting entry into the world of entrepreneurship, improving and disseminating knowledge, as well as promoting and developing entrepreneurship in the field of creative and cultural industries – explained the director of the Innovation Institution, Katarina Colić.
The Innovation Centre building blends well with its surroundings with a facade lined with natural terracotta tiles (Tonality Facades).
Tonality Facade Terracottas is a natural material that is installed as a ventilated facade system, thus providing optimal thermal and sound insulation, better energy efficiency and thus economy and cost reduction. A special type of sinter firing process makes Tonality facade terracottas extremely strong, durable and resistant to weathering and other aggressive environmental influences. Facade claddings of this type operate virtually maintenance-free and are available with particularly effective and long-lasting protection against graffiti. Due to the characteristic and simple installation method, the system allows easy repairs of damage or vandalism, and problematic parts of the facade can be replaced very quickly and easily. Tonality facades, in addition to their durability, are characterized by a variety of colours and shapes. The cladding is available in more than 30 different colours and tones. In addition to the characteristic cladding of rectangular formats, there are also facade elements that serve as protection from the sun and view or as inspiration for architectural ideas.
