Melkinlaituri Parking Garage
Green rhythm on the coast of Helsinki
On the southwestern edge of Helsinki, the new Melkinlaituri district has created a vibrant, sustainable coastal neighborhood. A central architectural highlight of this development is the Melkinlaituri parking garage, designed by ALA Architects.
The façade was constructed in close collaboration with our local partner Muotolevy Oy using specially developed TONALITY® terracotta elements. Three differently sized “tubes” in harmoniously coordinated shades of green lend the clearly structured architecture a natural depth, organic liveliness, and a multi-layered, vibrant façade structure. Their open, varied arrangement creates transparent, light-flooded areas that give the building an inviting presence in the cityscape.
Each tube element was individually manufactured and refined in a complex glazing process. The result is a surface of extraordinary depth and expressiveness – characterized by fine color gradients, subtle gloss effects, and lively nuances. No two tubes are alike – each one is unique with its own character.
