Paley Hall
Campus identity in terracotta
Temple University’s New Paley Hall in Philadelphia transforms the former Paley Library through refurbishment of the existing structure and an extension, creating a distinctive campus building block and the consolidated home of the College of Public Health.
The new expression is defined by a suspended, rear-ventilated TONALITY® terracotta façade as a continuous building skin. The façade composition uses five TONALITY® element types – three glossy white variants and one silk-matt red variant. The finely tuned interplay of light reflection, depth and color accent structures the building volume, sharpens its scale, and lends the ensemble a robust yet precisely materialized presence. Fixing is carried out via the TONALITY Adaptive System (ADS).
Architecturally, the project was led by The S/L/A/M Collaborative together with PZS Architects; façade design development, final cutting of the terracotta elements and logistics were handled by our local partner exo Surfaces; installation was executed by EDA Contractors.
